Small Scale Food Production, Food Security, Nutrition & Right

        3RD YOUTH NETWORK MEETING MAIN POINTS

Ms. Sunitha Rao, Ms. Manorama from Vanstree organization and Mr. Nishant intern from Vanstree, Sirsi, shared their experiences promoting forest garden biodiversity and food/nutrition security through the conservation of traditional seeds.
The focus of the discussion was:
·         promote cultivated and wild biodiversity in farms and forest home gardens
·         encourage seed saving and conservation of traditional crop varieties
·         provide economic incentives for these activities through ecologically sensitive enterprise

Group work was done to list out the food crops, water sources, fruit trees, in region wise  i.e Bellary, Dharwad, Bangalore, Bijapur.  Group presentation.  Analyses on the availability of food and water sources.
·         The local vegetables which are grown in each area was listed and shared by the youth. This exercise was enriching as the youth could release what all local crops, vegetables and fruits are grows, which could be consumed with less expensive and use of chemical.

Individual excise on consumption, name of the food and how / where it comes from – enisled better we eat the food where we know about where it comes to us. For avoid other chemical or adverse effects.
